In 2014, the Danish String Quartet released Wood Works, a collection of their own arrangements of Scandinavian folksongs. These stunning pieces took the string playing world by storm, and their second volume Last Leaf was eagerly received in 2019.

For this program, the Nomads have handpicked their favourite numbers from both volumes and composed music to extend and connect them. The result is a Danish feast in five courses, ranging from poignant Faroese wedding songs to contemporary Swedish folk funk to blistering reels inspired by music of the British Renaissance - and everything in between!

The Nomad String Quartet is delighted to be sharing the stage with the Bellingen Youth Orchestra’s Sinfonia for several of these tunes.

Join them on an emotional journey through the landscape of the most beautiful music you’ve never heard.

The concert will be 90 minutes including an intermission.

A complimentary bus service will be available for the day from Bellingen, donated by "The Community Transport Co".

The Nomad String Quartet was formed in Sydney as the Ben Adler Quartet in 2021. Thus far, it has given over 140 concerts to more than 50,000 people across Sydney, playing music ranging from Vivaldi to Daft Punk, Mozart to Michael Jackson, Mendelssohn to Danish folk songs, Tchaikovsky to Hans Zimmer, Borodin to Anime soundtracks and more.

All members of Nomad are highly accomplished classical musicians who have performed with the major Australian orchestras; what brings them to Nomad is their love of folk, world music, jazz and other improvised traditions.

Nomad also breaks down the fourth wall to engage directly with the audience, and is passionately committed to breathing new life into classical music. Each Nomad concert experience is a curated journey that is refreshing and titillating to the connoisseur, inviting and accessible to the uninitiated, and emotionally captivating for all.

Sinfonia is Bellingen Youth Orchestra’s most advanced ensemble.
Hosting the leading string players, Sinfonia provides opportunities to take on challenging repertoire in an innovative musical experience. Players work to develop the highest levels of musical performance skills, often exploring new arrangements and performance spaces.
Selection for the Sinfonia is based on recommendations by teachers, ensemble leaders and the BYO Artistic Director, as they work to develop rewarding pathways for individual players.
