Bellingen Connections
Bellingen Connections is a new initiative which aims to reunite performers who currently live here with those who have a previous connection to Bellingen.
The inaugural Connections concert showcases a tiny taste of the diverse talent found in the Shire, featuring Gleniffer Strings - Liz Neville (Cello) & Lachlan Wilkins (Violin), AkaBella - Bellingen’s a cappella community choir, and local performance poets The Doctor & The Reverend - aka Dr Trevor Cheney & Rev Jason John.
A complimentary bus service will be available for the day from Bellingen, generously donated by "The Community Transport Co".
Gleniffer Strings: Liz and Lachlan regularly perform together and have developed a strong sense of camaraderie leading to performances infused with much joy and playfulness.
Liz Neville, currently a cellist with Sydney Symphony, has worked with many of Britain's top orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra.
Liz and her family lived in Gleniffer for 3 years where she regularly performed with local ensembles, was a much sought after cello teacher who also tutored & played with Bellingen Youth Orchestra and Sinfonia. Now back living and working again in Sydney, Liz loves returning to share her love of cello.
Lachlan is a graduate of Queensland Conservatorium who now works as a freelance violinist and teacher. Lachlan is a regular visitor to Bellingen where he is a much-loved part time tutor with BYO & Sinfonia as well as a guest soloist.
Akabella is Bellingen's longest running community choir, led by Musical Director and Conductor Louise Gore. It is a vibrant & inclusive group known for its diverse repertoire.
The choir embraces a variety of genres including contemporary, traditional & world music, all sung a cappella.
Akabella's mission is to foster a supportive & engaging environment where singers of all skill levels can come together & enjoy making quality music.
Be careful - you will want to join the choir.The Doctor and the Reverend aka Dr Trevor Cheney and Rev Jason John are well known local performance poets, regulars at Poetry Slam events, including the Bellingen Readers and Writers Festival.
Trevor, a local GP for over 20 years, works tirelessly for his patients and through his commitment to regional health.
Jason John is our Forest Chaplain and leads the non-denominational Gleniffer worship service and the outdoor Gleniffer Ecofaith Community.
Both men have a deep sense of compassion and conviction, which comes through in their poetry, which is sprinkled with a good dose of humour.
